The problem
Native search stops at the platform's edge
ChatGPT's Cmd+K search is exact-keyword only, has no filters, and — like Claude's — only sees its own chats. If your work is split across both assistants, every lookup is two searches on two sites, and the conversation you need is always on the other one. Install the extension
Add NorthLab Folders from the Chrome Web Store. No account, no setup — the sidebar appears on chatgpt.com and claude.ai automatically.
Browse like normal
The index builds locally as you use each site. The honest caveat: it can only index chats from the browser it's installed in, as it sees them — a large history fills in over time.
Search from either site
Open search from the folder sidebar on either platform. One query returns title matches from both ChatGPT and Claude, grouped by your folders, in one list.

The index never leaves your browser
A search tool that reads your AI conversations should be held to a higher bar than a theme or an ad blocker. Ours is simple to audit: the index lives in your browser's local storage, we operate no servers that touch conversation content, and the extension's permissions are scoped to chatgpt.com and claude.ai only — never "all websites".

Today, cross-chat title search is free on both platforms. Full-text search inside message bodies is built and in final validation for Pro — including jumping straight to the exact matching message. We only advertise what's shipped, so this section will change the day it's live.
Until then, the free tier already covers the daily case: find the conversation by title, on either platform, and export it to Markdown if you want it grep-able forever.

How do I search my ChatGPT conversation history?
ChatGPT's built-in search (Cmd+K) covers one platform with exact keywords only. NorthLab Folders adds a search box that covers your chat history on both chatgpt.com and claude.ai — open it from the folder sidebar on either site and type. Results are grouped by the folders you've organized chats into.
Can I search my ChatGPT and Claude history together?
Yes — that's the point of this extension. Neither platform can see the other's chats, so 'where did I discuss X' normally means two separate searches on two sites. NorthLab Folders indexes both locally and answers from one search box.
Does the extension upload my conversations to power search?
No. The search index is built and stored entirely inside your browser (IndexedDB). Nothing is sent to our servers — we don't have servers that touch conversation content. The extension's permissions are scoped to chatgpt.com and claude.ai only.
Does it search inside message text, or just titles?
Today it searches chat titles across both platforms, free. Full-text search inside message bodies is rolling out to Pro next — including jumping straight to the exact matching message. We only advertise what's live, so this page will say so when it ships.
Is the history search free?
