This Privacy Policy explains how NorthLab Apps ("we", "us") handles information when you use NorthLab Folders, our Chrome extension for ChatGPT and Claude (the "Extension"), and the website northlabapps.com (the "Site"). The short version: your conversation content never leaves your browser. We designed the Extension so that we are technically unable to read your chats.
1. What the Extension processes locally
To provide folders, pins, date stamps, and export, the Extension reads the conversations visible to you on chatgpt.com and claude.ai. All of this processing happens entirely inside your browser:
- Conversation titles and dates are read in your browser session to display the sidebar list and date stamps. Titles and dates are kept in memory only — they are never written to extension storage.
- Folder structure (the folders you create, which conversations you place in them, and which chats you pin) is stored in your browser's local extension storage. Only folder names and opaque conversation IDs are stored — never message text.
- Exports and copies (Markdown or JSON files, or copy-as-Markdown to your clipboard) are generated on your device, on demand, from the conversation you choose. They are never uploaded anywhere.
None of this locally processed data is transmitted to NorthLab Apps or any third party. We run no servers that ever see your conversations, and the Extension requires no account.

3. Pro license validation
If you buy a Pro plan, you receive a license key from Lemon Squeezy. When
you enter it in the Extension's popup, the Extension sends the key and a
random device identifier directly to Lemon Squeezy's license API
(api.lemonsqueezy.com) to activate, validate, or deactivate
your license. The validation result is cached in your browser's local
extension storage. That is the Extension's only network
communication outside chatgpt.com and claude.ai — no conversation data is
ever included in it.
4. Extension permissions
The Extension requests only the permissions it needs:
- Host access to chatgpt.com and claude.ai — required to display the folder sidebar inside those sites. The Extension does not run on any other website.
- Host access to api.lemonsqueezy.com — used only to validate Pro license keys (Section 3).
- Storage — to keep your folders, pins, and settings on your device.
The Extension requests no other permissions — no access to your downloads, tabs, cookies, browsing history, or any site beyond the three hosts above.
5. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
NorthLab Folders' use of information received from the websites it runs on adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular: data the Extension reads is used only to provide the user-facing features described on this page, is never sold, is never used for advertising, and is never transferred to third parties except as required to provide those features (license validation, Section 3) or to comply with applicable law.
6. Payments
Paid plans are sold by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. When you purchase, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes your payment and billing information under its own privacy policy. As the merchant's customer records, we can see your email address, the product purchased, and the order status in our Lemon Squeezy dashboard — used only for license support and refunds. We never see or store your card details.
7. The website
northlabapps.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party tracking scripts. Cloudflare, as our hosting provider, may process standard server logs (such as IP addresses) to deliver and secure the site, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Local data (folders, pins, settings, the license cache) lives on your device. Uninstalling the Extension removes it.
- Order records are retained by Lemon Squeezy and by us as required for tax and accounting law.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because we hold so little — at most your order details and support emails — requests are simple to fulfil. Email support@northlabapps.com and we will respond within 30 days.
10. Children
The Extension and Site are not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes affecting data collection, notify users inside the Extension before the change takes effect. We will never silently expand what we collect.
