This Privacy Policy explains how NorthLab Apps ("we", "us") handles information when you use NorthLab Folders, our Chrome extension for ChatGPT and Claude (the "Extension"), and the website northlabapps.com (the "Site"). The short version: your conversation content never leaves your browser. We designed the Extension so that we are technically unable to read your chats.
1. What the Extension processes locally
To provide folders, search, and export, the Extension reads the conversations visible to you on chatgpt.com and claude.ai. All of this processing happens entirely inside your browser:
- Conversation text and titles are read and indexed locally to power cross-chat search. The index is stored in your browser's local extension storage on your device.
- Folder structure (the folders you create and which conversations you place in them) is stored in your browser's local extension storage.
- Exports (Markdown or JSON files) are generated on your device and saved directly to your computer. They are never uploaded anywhere.
None of this locally processed data is transmitted to NorthLab Apps or any third party. We have no server-side access to your conversations, your search index, or your exports.
2. What we collect — and what we never collect

3. Optional cloud sync
Cloud sync is off by default. If you enable it (a Pro feature), the following — and only the following — is stored on our servers, linked to your account:
- The names of your folders and their hierarchy.
- The conversation IDs assigned to each folder.
Conversation IDs are opaque identifiers generated by ChatGPT or Claude
(for example, a string like a1b2c3d4-…). They contain no
message content, and we cannot use them to read your conversations. If you
disable cloud sync, you can delete your synced data from our servers in
the Extension's settings, and we remove it permanently within 30 days.
4. Extension permissions
The Extension requests only the permissions it needs:
- Host access to chatgpt.com and claude.ai — required to display folders and search inside those sites. The Extension does not run on any other website.
- Storage — to keep your folders and search index on your device.
- Downloads — to save Markdown/JSON exports to your computer.
5. Payments
Paid plans are sold by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. When you purchase, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes your payment and billing information under its own privacy policy. We receive from Lemon Squeezy only what we need to activate your license: your email address, the product purchased, and the order status. We never see or store your card details.
6. The website
northlabapps.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party tracking scripts. Cloudflare, as our hosting provider, may process standard server logs (such as IP addresses) to deliver and secure the site, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
7. Data retention and deletion
- Local data (folders, search index) lives on your device. Uninstalling the Extension removes it.
- Synced data (folder names + conversation IDs) is kept while your account is active. You can delete it from the Extension's settings or by emailing us; deletion completes within 30 days.
- Order records are retained by Lemon Squeezy and by us as required for tax and accounting law.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because we hold so little — at most your email, folder names, and conversation IDs — requests are simple to fulfil. Email zaibansari20@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
9. Children
The Extension and Site are not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes affecting cloud sync or data collection, notify users inside the Extension before the change takes effect. We will never silently expand what we collect.
